NYFW: The Row Spring 14 (so perfect it kills you, every season)

The ultimate in aspirational dressing - their spring offering is (as always) exactly how you want to dress now and for the rest of your life. Just look at it - don't you want to just die right now? So achingly light and effortless. Elite luxury yet so calm and restrained - already iconic of The Row. The deft touch of romantic exoticism for spring was particularly beautiful, with a quiet nod to colonial nostalgia. The best looks were the long columns of ivory and black, finished with hats and veils - and there's just something about the tradition, functionality and privacy of a beautiful, simple hat that speaks volumes and elevates a look.

One thing I particularly love about The Row, is there commitment to flat footwear every single season. It's a subtle, calm consistency that defines the whole look - the pieces don't need heels, on the contrary they are elevated by the lack of them. This season's in particular are brilliant - backless loafers commissioned from a cobbler of handmade mens footwear in Italy.

I'll be trying to evoke some vague approximation of this for spring and summer - because nothing else even comes close to a look like this right now.
