I visited the recently opened Pony Professionnel by Mana Dave in Newmarket a couple of weeks ago to try out what was on offer and check out the beautifully designed interior by Katie Lockhart.
The beautiful space hits you as soon as you walk in, and the references are subtle although not without considerable impact. Lockhart says 'the design was inspired by 1960's Coiffeur's in France (that is where the tiles and the signage hark from) mixed with a touch of rural Japan mixed in (rough sawn blocks of wood and bonsais). I think combining these two influences gives the interior a certain amount of unexpected interest... The tiles are my favourite element of the fit out as they are handmade here in New Zealand!' The minimal colour comes from the simply arranged product from the likes LʼOreal, Pureology, Redken, Kevin Murphy, Sebastian, ghd and Sans (among others) that line the walls - Lockhart's approach was 'to create good merchandising propositions and of course to consider function first and foremost.'
I got to try a personalised Kerastase spa treatment to rehydrate my hair - I left the salon with noticeably softer, healthier hair, not to mention some volume and bounce courtesy of a good blow dry (that I'm always incapeable of achieving my self). Naturally I had to take an elevator selfie - keeping those fine Instagram traditions alive.
