NZFW 2012: Seven Questions with Ingrid Starnes

Ingrid Starnes will be showing her Fall 13 collection on Wednesday morning at New Zealand Fashion week alongside Twenty-Seven Names at Blue Sky. Last year she opened NZFW, showing there for the first time, and presented one of the standout collections of the season. I'm sure this year will be no different, and am looking forward to see some of that easy, nostalgic femininity she does so well. I asked Ingrid a few questions in the lead-up to the coming week.

How did putting together the winter collection go?
It's gone really well this year. For the first time we've had a sample machinist working in the workroom with us so I haven't had to sew most of the pieces. Things are a lot easier working with a great team!

Are there any influences or inspirations or music you want to divulge?
The collection is based around the idea of a party at a country estate. It's called "Hunt's End". So the music is a little English and eccentric. We're really stoked to be working with Andrew Tidball of Cheese on Toast on the track this year. He's brought some great ideas to the tracklist.

How have you seen the label develop this year?
This year has been great. We have a new permanent Tessuti + Ingrid Starnes store in Newmarket opening on August 30 and had a great pop-up store. We have a few new stockists and some really exciting plans. Our best development though would be having Gertie, our new baby and that this hasn't tipped everything else over!

Are there any exclusive prints/textiles/accessories for the upcoming winter collection?
Absolutely. Exclusive prints are incredibly important to us, that and custom dying cloth to get our own colourways. We have a beautiful exclusive Houndstooth and a beautifully eccentric paisley. And a beautiful lace diamond detailed merino knitwear

What's your favorite part of New Zealand Fashion Week?
It is such a blast to see the collection as a whole and to tell a story with music and mood. - Memorable moments from previous NZFWs. This is our second. Opening last year was a wonderful experience all round.

What are your thoughts on showing as part of Blue Sky and on the success the inaugural event had?
Murray at Showroom 22 is amazing for being able to make sure his showroom labels have a chance to be showcased at fashion week. We would not be able to be a part of this without collaborating with the lovely team at Twenty-Seven Names and without the way Showroom 22 have pulled this together.

Can you tell us a bit about the spring collection that's in stores now?
It is so exciting to see the pieces hitting the store. The Agatha Trench and Dorothy dress are both in now and I am loving wearing them. The blossom print is an exclusive we had made and is really special.
