The Gentlewoman Issue Two

There are very few magazines that I truly drop everything for and read cover to cover. Vogue Hommes International is one, as are antipodean titles No and Russh and so is Lula. But above all others is newcomer The Gentlewoman - regular readers and friends will know well of my love for this publication. Although only in it's second issue, every page inspires and intrigues. I finished the second issue as I finished the first, wanting to become a more mannered, accomplished and dare I say it more ladylike version of myself. And I could rabbit on and on about it, but instead I have scanned all my favorite pages from the second issue to share with you - although I thoroughly recommend purchasing your own copy. Even the captions are worth reading - articulate, descriptive and well thought out.

MODERNISMS: Modern Solitude - Ashley Olsen
I've always adored the Olsen twins - both for their style, determination and individuality - so it's nice to see them getting some respected press for the hard work they put into their businesses and their dedication to an aesthetic that is purely them. For this issue, Ashley contemplates modern solitude and its existence in the life of someone who is one half of a pair.

Marc Jacobs Fall 10 Campaign
I don't know how I missed this shot when the campaign was released a while ago, but I adore it (as I did the others).

"Navy"
I'm obsessed with navy at the moment - its simplicity, sombre nature and the duality of it being so old fashioned yet so thoroughly modern at the same time. Naturally I'm in love with this editorial.

Margaret Howell Fall 10
I always adore the Margaret Howell campaigns. So laidback, tailored feminine and so so English.

The feature on blush, with Abbey Lee as the beautiful canvas, is gorgeous and refreshingly different to most beauty shoots.
Photographed by Willy Vanderperre.

"Long Looks"
Eniko Mihalik by Terry Richardson. Styled by Jonathan Kaye

I find the concept of a "pyramid of grey" in this editorial so intriguing - such a different take on a garment-centric feature. It really highlights the relationship and dialogue between the chosen garments - not to mention enhancing the tonal aesthetic of the grey hues.

All scanned by me.

  1. Great post! I like the image on page 127; those boots are amazing. Abbey Lee always reminds me of Alexis Bledel.

  2. Wow! What a beautiful magazine! Something I might want to get. I love how they describe everything in the editorials, something I usually don't see in the magazines I read. My favorite photos are the ones with Abbey Lee, she looks phenomenal!
